I am a licensed professional counselor with Stephen Ward Associates in Hibbing, Minnesota. I grew up in western North Dakota and then attended Colorado State University, where I earned a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. I moved to Minnesota in 1993 where I raised and home-schooled my three children. I returned to school at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, where I earned my master's degree in Counseling Psychology in 2005. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor through the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy since May 2015.
My work experience includes chemical dependency counseling for clients and their families, animal assisted therapy for children in inpatient and outpatient settings, and in-home children’s therapeutic support services.
I draw my counseling methods from a variety of treatment approaches, to fit the counseling to what each individual needs. I use play therapy techniques, cognitive-behavioral, psycho-education, bibliotherapy, and person-centered therapy with an existential influence.
I have experience treating emotional and behavioral issues, anxiety, attachment disorders, school and social phobias, ocd, depression, and self-esteem and self-concept issues. I also have special interests in women’s personal development and growth, relationship issues and transitions, parenting, post-divorce issues and divorce recovery, and spiritual awareness and discovery.
